The paper deals with what is called here substitution or misrepresentation of cultures, i.e. the cases in which one culture is misrepresented in translation through the distorting prism of another culture (not necessarily the target one) on untenable grounds, which leads to quite unacceptable results. The many examples cited in the text are meant to illustrate this phenomenon, its consequences and its danger. |
